Why would you consult a building designer at CWC? Wellā¦
So, you have the design for your home. Whatās next?
In Step 2, CWC ensures that all the boxes are ticked to make an application to Council for approval. This involves the preparation of architectural and construction plans, as well as all documentation required for Council to assess the development (which may include a BASIX Certificate, Thermal Comfort Assessment and Bushfire Report).
Because we live and breathe the rules and regulations, CWC can make sure everything is covered and liaise with Council, on your behalf, which means you can breathe easy.
Yes! You have Council approval covered! In Step 3, CWC can help to navigate the process of contracting a Builder for your project. We can prepare a detailed Building Specification report that outlines the scope and requirements for the build and make arrangements for your preferred builders to provide a written quotation based on those requirements. CWC will liaise with those builders, and also provide a written comparison of the quotes for you to consider when making your final decision.
Again, we work with you to ensure you have all the information you need to make an informed choice based on the specifics of your project.
Woohoo ā youāve reached construction stage! At CWC, we love seeing an idea come to life, so we can help project manage the construction of your home. With this phase, we take an active role in supervising the build, and will prepare a project schedule in consult with your builder, as well as liaising with external consultants, suppliers and trades to ensure the project is on track.
We attend regular site meetings and conduct inspections, as well as holding regular site meetings and inspections as well as progress meetings with you to review the construction. CWC can also assist in providing a full ancillary service of interior design to add those personal touches to your custom design.
Congratulations! Youāve done it ā youāve designed and built your new home. CWC will make sure you receive the final Occupation Certificate from your Builder. And then guess what? Book that removalist, because youāre ready to move in. Please invite us to your house party.

A building designer is a professional who specialises in creating custom designs for residential, commercial and industrial projects. They work closely with clients to understand their vision, needs, and budget, then develop detailed plans that meet those requirements. Building designers are experts in functional, aesthetic, and costeffective design, ensuring the final plan aligns with your lifestyle and project goals. They also handle necessary approvals, liaise with builders, and manage the design process from start to finish, providing a hands-on, personalised approach to bring your vision to life.
A building designer specialises in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing designs for both residential and commercial projects, such as new builds, renovations, and extensions, with a strong focus on practicality and cost-effectiveness. While architects have broader training and often handle larger-scale developments, building designers offer a more personalised, hands-on approach to design. At Collins W Collins, we focus on delivering custom designs tailored to your needs, ensuring your vision comes to life with attention to detail and a strong understanding of your budget.
A building designer creates custom designs tailored to your specific needs and budget, ensuring every detail is considered from the start. While package homes may seem more affordable upfront, they follow a one-size-fits-all approach and aren’t customised to your lifestyle. Upgrades and customisations can quickly add up, making them less cost-effective in the long run. With a building designer, you get a unique, personalised design that stays within your budget, offering flexibility and a solution that truly suits you.
The process for designing and building a new home starts with an initial consultation where we discuss your ideas, needs, and budget. From there, we create a custom design tailored to your vision. Once the design is finalised, we handle the necessary council approvals and assist in choosing the right builder. Project management is available as an add-on service, ensuring everything runs smoothly throughout construction with regular updates and site inspections. Once completed, we assist with final approvals, ensuring you’re ready to move into your dream home.
The cost of hiring a building designer can vary depending on the scope and complexity of your project. Typically, building designers charge either a fixed fee, hourly rate, or a percentage of the total project cost. For smaller projects, like renovations or extensions, fees may start from a few thousand dollars, while larger, custom-designed homes can cost significantly more. It’s important to discuss your budget upfront so the building designer can tailor their services to your needs. At CWC, we ensure transparency in our pricing and work with you to create a solution that fits your budget.
